I'll try to stay as general as possible to avoid obvious issues.
but it's a truly terrible management solution to an otherwise great scanning tool.ĭisclamer: I work for Malwarebytes on this exact product.

I haven't looked at the update notes at all, so maybe some of this has been fixed.

We just make the scanning client available for end-users to execute if necessary instead of "illegally" downloading the free version. Our company was 400 devices into a 3500 client deployment when the deployment was halted and our 3-year subscription sits quietly aging away. Malwarebytes themselves had shit communication and incomplete instructions to top it off.

I have systems showing online right now that haven't been running for months!Īnd then there was the fateful Jan 27th when malwarebytes pushed a bad update that nuked private subnet network communication and required MANUAL remediation and sneakernet to resolve. The "active" communication icons / indicators are ALWAYS wrong. I have a batch file with the uninstall command handy for this shit. Also means low-bandwidth or high-packet loss can mean devices don't communicate with the server any more! It's fantastic.ĭid you know that their uninstaller doesn't work? YES! You can go ahead and run uninstall from add/remove programs, but it doesn't work! Looks like a permissions issue, like it requires admin but doesn't do the UAC prompt. the communication service won't re-start until manually started or the computer reboots. (My team didn't have access to do "DELETE" so we needed to get a DBA to do it, insult to injury and all that)ĭid you know that the sccomm service shuts off if it doesn't reach the management point THREE times? YES! believe it or not if you put your computer to sleep, take it home and use it, and bring it in the next day. Oh! Identifiers! Did you know that the malwarebytes server has the ability to try and re-insert existing data causing a primary key constraint violation in the DB? YES! And the expediently supplied fix from support is to erase the duplicate key with a direct SQL query! Which meant they knew this problem existed -and- that they have no way built-in to fix it.

You needed to uninstall and re-install the client to get a different identifier or the software won't communicate with the server. (might be better now, but i doubt it)ĭid you know that malwarebytes has created a method to generate duplicate GUIDs? YES! believe it or not different clients would get duplicate GUID client identifiers. Didn't like how it enjoyed rebooting systems and didn't really have great reporting / grouping so we didn't opt for the cloud service.
I used the malwarebytes cloud beta before it released and it was. Some reporting I wanted is not there which I felt was critical (pc's not not recently scanned reporting etc) Some annoyances - if a machine crashes and it has malware found before you manaully delete it - there is no way to remove this machine from the admin section (really made the dashboard look bad) Scanning sceduling is a breeze and it works well! Malware removal its great at this - picks up what most AV's do not. Administration is great - there is a cloud platform where you can group PC's and create different policies per group etc however this needs to be done manually - there is no AD sync option (as far as I could find - it may have been a pricing / add on etc) I used Malwarebytes in my previous role, really worked well - however it important to note that Malwarebytes is not a complete end to end AV solution and needs another AV product to work along side it (MS AV seems to be improving these days so perhaps this might not be the case anymore).
